Vibrant, dynamic and inspiring, Orpheus Sinfonia is a young, bright beacon of the professional orchestral scene, producing high-quality performances for public benefit, exploring new and ground-breaking avenues and also actively engaging with accessible performances, outreach work and community interaction.

Founded in 2009, Orpheus Sinfonia is one of London’s most vibrant and inspiring orchestras, attracting exceptional musicians, as we work to create and sustain the future music, under the artistic direction of international cellist and conductor Thomas Carroll.

Composers: 2024-25 Foundation Programme

After more than a decade of existence and following the impact of covid, Orpheus has developed a brand new structured Foundation Programme arising out of what we’d come to learn is critically essential to succeed. Our Foundation Programme gives musicians of all backgrounds realtime first steps into professional careers: a juncture to learn how to work and create livelihoods. It made possible by the extraordinary support by the Skyrme Hart Charitable Trust, for which we are immensely grateful. Following a highly impactful initial year, applications are now open for composers for next season 2024-25.

Closing date 19 August 2024 (early application strongly encouraged).

Discover the connections between art and music in a major new partnership between Orpheus Sinfonia and the Wallace Collection.

Through five intimate performances filmed within the splendour of Hertford House, we invite you to explore the styles, forms and compositions that unite music – performed live in the Wallace Collection galleries during lockdown – with paintings, decorative arts, and arms and armour.

With concise introductions from Wallace Collection Director, Dr Xavier Bray, alongside Orpheus Sinfonia’s Artistic team, Thomas Carroll and Rosemary Taylor, each premier broadcast features Orpheus Sinfonia musicians performing a specially-selected repertoire that brings the synergy of art and music into focus.

Applications are in two-stages.

Stage 1:

Online submission. You are required to complete the application form in which you will need to submit score, with accompanying recording if available, of your choice of 2 compositions from your repertoire.

The selected 2024-25 OSFP composer will be invited to compose a 10-minute concert piece for orchestra (instrumentation: 2222 4231 Timp Strings(64442)) to premiere on 26 June 2025, so please submit your choice of material that best demonstrates your ability and potential for that commission.

If you have a recording available please also submit this to support your score submission, however recordings of submitted scores are not a pre-requisite to application. Recordings do not need to be professionally produced, and the production of the recording will not have any bearing on the outcome of the audition. Recordings made on iPhone or similar are perfectly acceptable.

Applicants should test the playability of their recording links prior to submission, by checking the links work on at least one device different from the one they are recording on/completing the form on.

Stage 2:

Shortlist interviews in London 13 September 2024.

Applications for the 2024-25 Foundation Programme season are now open.
