A new Foundation Programme giving recent music graduates of all backgrounds first steps into professional careers

Open to musicians of all backgrounds, up to two years after leaving formal study. The Foundation’s diverse programming encompasses wide-ranging musical styles across core repertoire and contemporary female and BAME composers.

Running a range of ambitious projects, the Foundation Programme will give opportunity to 36 instrumentalists, 3 soloists, 1 conductor, 4 singers and 1 composer annually. As well as paid work preparing for and performing four orchestral concerts in London, participants will be supported by wraparound sessions each season, with mentoring from core Orpheus members and eminent industry professionals. The Foundation Programme will establish a lasting space in which emerging professionals can explore and develop future livelihoods. It creates a juncture to realise creative entrepreneurship and learn how to work.

Repertoire and Concert Dates

Selected Foundation Composers will be invited to write a 10 minute orchestral work to be premiered 23rd May 2024.

Applications are now closed for 2023-24 Season. 

Next year’s applications will open in May 2024.

Selected Foundation Conductors will assist Orpheus Prinicpal Conductors on all Foundation Performances, and conduct the orchestra in concerts 21 March and 23 May 2024.

Selected Foundation Instrumentalists will perform in up to 4 orchestral projects (14 Sept 23, 16 Nov 23, 21 Mar 24, 23 May 24), mentored by Orpheus Principals and esteemed members of the industry.

Selected Foundation Opera Singers will work with Oliver Gooch and Orpheus Sinfonia on chosen arias and ensemble numbers, concert 21 March 2024.

In addition, Foundation Participants partake wraparound advancement sessions throughout the season, covering areas including: connection building, understanding music as a business, creative entrepreneurship, fundraising insights, professional decorum, CV advice and digital recording opportunities. Further opportunities and additional projects as possible when they arise.

Foundation Participants recieve Foundation Fees for Foundation Performances. Applications are open to musicians of all backgrounds, up to and including 2 years after graduation from full-time study.
