The Orpheus Principals brings together the exceptional principal musicians and prize-winners of the Orpheus Sinfonia in performances of large-scale chamber works.
As the music-making of Orpheus has expanded over the past few years, it is a privilege and a pleasure for these musicians to be able to work together in this special area of chamber music.
Orpheus Principals look forward to continuing the exploration of unusual pieces, many of which are rarely performed purely because of their eclectic instrumentation.
The expansive repertoire covered by this group includes everything from Wagner to Schubert; Mozart to Britten; Stravinsky to Spohr; and because the group is so flexible it is able to perform in a wide range of concert venues as well as more unusual places. Performances have included at Windsor Festival, Newbury Spring Festival, Cambridge Summer Music Festival Music in Quiet Places, Tate Modern, Wallace Collection, Windsor Castle, Blenheim Palace, and Grosvenor Chapel; as well as bespoke concerts for a wide variety of events.
The Orpheus Principals have formed the back-bone of our Adjourned but Still in Session series – concerts from our homes to you in the time of coronavirus, curating a wide variety of programmes and exploring many styles and composers.
