Cambridge Sumer Music – Festival Finale
Wednesday 14th September 2016 7:30PM
Great St. Mary’s, Senate House Hill, Cambridge CB2 3PQ
In the grand finale of the 2016 Cambridge Summer Music Festival, Tim Brown conducts the CSM Festival Chorus and Orpheus Sinfonia in a performance of Rossini’s masterful and spectacular Stabat Mater with soloists Sarah-Jane Brandon (soprano), Elisabeth Irvine (mezzo-soprano), David Webb (tenor) and David Stout (baritone). Written late in Rossini’s life and over ten years, this sprawling setting of the traditional Christian poem owes much to the composer’s career in opera while nevertheless demonstrating a rigorous contrapuntal technique. With rousing bombast astride lyrical introspection, this will be a Festival finale to remember!
