Join us for an evening exploring the famous love triangle between Schumann, Brahms and Clara Schumann.
During the first half of the concert we will hear many excerpts from both Schumann and Brahms’s symphonies, alongside readings of the poignant and beautiful letters between them. They form a wonderful picture of their very different personalities.
The second half will consist of a complete performance of Brahms’s first symphony. Both Clara and Robert Schumann greatly supported Brahms and encouraged him to write a symphony, so it feels very fitting to perform, in its entirety, the work which puts the ghosts of Beethoven to bed and reveals Brahms as a true master of the symphonic form.
The Love Triangle is part of Beneath the Score – an exciting series of concerts created to bring classical music to life, revealing the story behind the music. Join us to discover more about the composers lives, personalities and the time in which they lived.
